Let me start with this. I’ve always found it a little weird to read bios and ‘about us’ pages in the third person so I decided that I wouldn’t do it… so this is me, Joyce, giving you the insider-background info on me.
I grew up in the suburbs of our nation’s capital, Washington DC. My mom and dad (now both retired) instilled in me a thirst for knowledge, the drive to always do my best and a desire to do what I love.
Among the things I affectionately “blame” on my dad is my love of all things tech and gadgets…so combining accounting and the internet while getting to tinker with new modes of delivery and communication via “the cloud” is naturally a no-brainer.
After graduating from Morgan State University, I went on to work for some of the largest regional property management companies on the East Coast discovering two things: that outside of numbers, I had a love for (1) problem solving and (2) helping people understand the numbers.
I learned a lot and progressed along a traditional career path but it never felt quite right. I left tradition behind determined to blaze my own path – combining the traditional and the non-traditional, while playing by the rules.
Common Cents Consulting, as it is today, is the third generation of the company. I originally started the company in 2002 and stopped a couple of times, opting to go back to corporate America until the conditions were right.
It has taken quite awhile but I think that technology is finally catching up to my brainchild – offering traditional accounting and tax preparation services to small business in nontraditional ways via the internet. I believe the power of the internet levels the playing field for the smallest business to compete with the biggest business! Leverage… harness it.
If you’ve made it this far – thanks for reading. If you want to get weekly tips on how to harness the internet and get a little leverage of your own, sign up for 2Cents. Go ahead, signup… I’ll wait.
After you’ve done that… check out the blog, get started with one of my virtual accounting or tax prep services or the QuickBooks training programs.
Anyway, I’m glad you came to my little corner of the internet. I sincerely hope that you find something helpful to you here and continue the conversation with me. Don’t be shy… give me a shout!
Cheers to Leverage! Thanks again for reading. It’s a pleasure to meet you…
