I admit it… I am working on my addiction to procrastination.  Some days, I just want to sit and read a book…especially on a nice breezy, summer day.  Or on a nice snowy, winter day… next to the fire.

But that’s not always feasible.  To be successful, we simply have to get stuff done… and that won’t happen if we take too many days off to read books.  🙂

quick tips for killing procrastination

So how does one get past the humdrums and over the procrastination hump and into the land of getting stuff done?  Here are a few tips…

Recognize Your Procrastination

First admit to having a procrastination problem, then identify what your are procrastinating about.  Not sure about you but when I procrastinate, its usually things that I don’t like to do… things that I find boring… or things that I don’t think that I’m good at so I’d rather not do them.

Start Somewhere/Anywhere

We all become so overwhelmed by the amount of things that we have to do… but the thing is once you get started, the list will get smaller AND you can use the momentum of getting stuff done to fuel you through to the next task on the list and probably the one after that.

Set Realistic Goals

This one can be tricky.  Especially if you are tackling something new but it can be done.  Sometimes we set goals that are sooooo big that we get caught up and overwhelmed and eventually procrastinate because of the sheer size of the thing we want to accomplish but there’s an easy fix to that.

Take your big goal and make mini-goals (or milestones) out of it.  As the proverb goes… how do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.  So if you have monster goals on your horizon and you’re doing nothing to accomplish them… take a step back, create milestone, mini-goals out of them… and take action!

Put one foot in front of the other… and get stuff done!  Today!  Everyday!

We all want to be successful, right?  So how do you kick the cobwebs out of your head and conquer procrastination?  Let me hear it in the comments below.
